All pupils and staff are encouraged to make appropriate use of computer
technology in the course of their work at Bedford School, and may also
use the system for personal and recreational purposes outside School
time, subject to the following.
The use of ICT facilities depends on all users behaving in a trustworthy
and considerate manner. All users ought to be able to have confidence
that their computer files will not be deleted, modified or accessed
by unauthorised people, and that their use of the system will not be
hampered by inconsiderate use by others.
A UserID is a 'computer name' for each person.
For a boy it is usually his surname followed by initials (so
for example Robert A.B. Jones would have a UserID of jonesrab).
For staff it is usually a single initial followed by surname
(so for example Bob Smith would have a UserID of bsmith).
You are allocated a UserID
and password when you come to the school, and you must
keep this secret. You must not log on to the system using anyone
else's UserID, nor attempt to find other people's passwords.
|
Using another person's UserID is impersonation, and accessing
their computer files is no different to opening their briefcase
or locker and meddling with their books or possessions.
|
|
You must not modify School computers or the network system by
tampering with hardware, changing system settings, or introducing
undesirable software. In some cases this may be illegal.
|
The School will take a serious view of any such activities.
In certain cases the Head Master might consider suspension,
or even calling in the Police.
|
|
The School limits access to undesirable material through the
School network. You must not seek out, store on the computer system,
or transmit to other users, material that might be deemed inappropriate
or offensive.
|
|
|
You should be aware that use of the system is monitored by the
School. This includes records of the times that you were logged
on and the details of sites that you have visited on the Internet.
The School also has the right of access to all files stored on
the system including personal e-mails.
|
Staff have access to pupils' files in the same way that they
expect to see their exercise books.
Personal emails and other personal files are not routinely
inspected, and this will only be done if there is a suspicion
that this AUP is being infringed.
|
|
If you make wasteful or inappropriate use of resources, you may
be charged for them.
|
Examples of this might include excessive use of personal emails,
downloading large files from the Internet, overuse of printers,
disc space, or network bandwidth.
