Logging onto the school server
Do this if you want to access your personal files, or use school computer programs - as if you were logging on from inside school.
On a Windows machine
The easiest way to access the school system is through the Active-X web interface.
Open Internet Explorer (this will only work with Internet Explorer). Navigate to
http://intranet.bedfordschool.org.uk. On the menu at the top go to General > School Server Logon. Click on one of the links on the page.
The first time you do this you will have to perform additional steps:
At the top of the window a bar will appear. Left click the bar, and select "Install ActiveX Control" from the menu that appears:
Another dialog box will appear asking if you want to install the software. Click "Install":
Once the software has installed a message will appear explaining how you can use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+alt+pause to toggle fullscreen on and off.
Another dialog box will appear asking if you wish to connect your local hard drives to the server. If you tick the box then this means that you will be able to transfer files to and from school, during the remote logon session:
You will then be able to logon, just as you would normally if you were is school.

If you are on Windows, but don't want to use Internet Explorer.
You will need to use the Remote Desktop client. If you are using Windows XP you might already have this on your system. If you do have it installed then it can be found at Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote Desktop Connection
If you don't have it it then it can be freely downloaded from Microsoft here.
Remote Desktop Connection should work fine with the default settings, all you will need to do is enter ts.bedfordschool.org.uk into the "computer" text field, then click "connect":
On a Macintosh
You will not be able to use a web browser to connect to the school server. Instead you need to use Remote Desktop Connection. If you have Microsoft Office installed, then you might already have this. If you do then it can be found at Applications > Microsoft Office > Additional Tools > Remote Desktop Connection > Remote Desktop Connection:
If you don't have the application then you can get it free from the Microsoft site here.
Once you have downloaded and run the software the default settings should work fine. All you need to do is enter "ts.bedfordschool.org.uk" into the "Computer" field, and click "Connect":

To access the intranet, personal admin, school email and Newshare only
This is the quickest way of accessing shared files, email and personal admin
You will be required to enter your username and password to proceed (this is the same username and password you use in school).
You may find that using your username and password alone don't work. If this is the case then try entering one of the following into the username field:
username@bedfordschool.org.uk BEDFORD_SCHOOL/username BEDFORD_SCHOOL\username
If you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer (including Macintosh browsers) or the password box has a picture of a head in the username field (as shown below) then using
username@bedfordschool.org.uk seems to work all of the time.
Depending on your version of Windows you may have a third text field labeled "domain", if this is the case enter "BEDFORD_SCHOOL" into it.
